The School Cafeteria

The School Cafeteria was a speech composed by Kevin McNulty based primarily on the song by "Weird Al" Yankovic of the same name. Kevin entered the speech in the category of "Original Prose/Poetry" in 1980 and took the speech all the way to the state finals.

Kevin placed sixth at the regional finals with the speech, and only the top five were allowed to compete at state. However, one of the top five decided to compete at state in a different category instead, and Kevin was tapped to compete as a replacement. The state speech finals for that year were held at San Diego State University - the school that, unbeknownst to him at the time, was the alma mater of Kevin's future father-in-law. His speech did not place at state, but he fondly remembers the experience nonetheless.
