Origins

Early on in their marriage, Kevin and Debbie agreed that they would make it a point to sit down at the dining room table and share the evening meal as a family as often as they could. This became especially important as tyhe children grew, making sure the family spent time together as a whole and had a chance to talk and share with each other.

One day, Debbie read an article about someone who had started the tradition in their family of sharing "good things" whenever they sat down to dinner. Kevin and Debbie decided to adapt that for the clan.

Usage

To this day whenever the clan sits down to dinner, each person takes their turn sharing at least one good thing that happened to them that day. This made family members realize that no matter how bad their day had gone, there was still something good in there somewhere, even if the only good thing they could think of was "I get to eat with my family who loves me."

Dinner guests are included in the ritual when they join the entire clan for dinner at their home.

This tradition also spawned the quote, "I'm happy, I'm healthy, I'm socially secure," which is Sean's standard openening anytime he lists his good things.
