Clint

Clint was the Khai Tam nickname for John Magnetta. Members of the club who were particularly active or noteworthy generally were given (or adopted) nicknames.

Origin

At the time John belonged to the Khai Tam, the ship's Captain was Jon Reddick. Looking to avoid confusion between the similar names, crew members took to awarding nicknames to any other member named John, and John Magnetta was no exception. John made a frequent habit of wearing a wide-brimmed hat very similar in appearance to those worn by Clint Eastwood during his "spaghetti western" days. The image, coupled with John's thin stature, the club thought the irony of the nickname "Clint" was too sweet to resist. He took it in his good natured stride, and was seldom called anything else by shipmates.
