In the Star Trek universe, Klingon Opera is generally under-appreciated by humans who find it dischordant, loud, and somehwat obnoxious. In the world of the USS Khai Tam, Klingon Opera had a very real, very personal and somewhat comparable meaning.
On the Khai Tam, as on many Starfleet ships, members adopt personas that fit their personalities. On Khai Tam, many crew members, nearly half in fact, had adopted a Klingon or part-Klingon persona of some sort. The captain of the ship in its heyday, Jon Reddick, had a Klingon persona, as did ship member James "Cannon" Lewis, both of whom snore relentlessly.
