Blackjack

Blackjack is the Khai Tam nickname for Norma Raye Crews. Members of the club who were particularly active or noteworthy generally were given (or adopted) nicknames.

Origin

Raye Crews has been a stalwart fixture aboard the Khai Tam for years. She really has always been known simplay as "Raye," but during the heyday of the 78th Marine Strike Group she adopted the nickname of "Black Jack."

The Marines of the 78th had decided that they wanted to fashion their strike group as an SFMC aerospace unit, making most all of the officers pilots. Following the best Top Gun tradition, each of the pilots selected (or were given) a "call sign." Because of her fondness for gambling in general and the game of blackjack specifically, Raye picked "Blackjack."
