Super Date
Super Date is a term used by members of Clan McNulty for a particular category of date that requires extravagant planning, execution, and/or expense above and beyond the call of a normal date.
Origin
The term was coined by Debbie McNulty during her courtship with Kevin McNulty. In a blatant attempt to sweep Debbie off her feet, Kevin emptied his savings account taking Debbie on a series of dates that she described to her family and friends as being "Super Dates".
Usage
The term is still alive and well and in regular use within Clan McNulty. The members of the clan, especially the adults, are big believers in the power of experiences as gifts rather than material possessions. They would rather go on a "Super Date" than get an extravagant piece of jewelry, for example.
Super Dates of the Clan McNulty
- Ambassador Hotel - A weekend getaway for Debbie & Kevin during their courtship. It included a Star Trek convention that was at the hotel that weekend featuring Patrick Stewart, but also included a lavish dinner atop the Westin-Bonaventure, where Debbie requested the pianist to perform the song "Through the Eyes of Love" dedicated to Kevin.
- Bern's Steakhouse - To celebrate their fourth anniversary, Kevin took Pamela to Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, FL. They had fois gras, steaks, and even shared a glass of 177-year-old Cognac with dessert.
- Knott's Berry Farm - Even though they lived almost within sight of the California amusement park at the time, Kevin whisked Debbie away to the Embassy Suites in Buena Park for the weekend, spending Saturday at Knott's.
- Medieval Times - During Debbie and Kevin's courtship, Kevin invited Debbie "just out to dinner." The simple dinner turned out to be the Medieval Times Tournament and Dinner Show in Buena Park, CA. Medieval Times both in CA and in FL have become popular Super Date destinations for the couple.
- Valentine's Day - Debbie, Kevin, and Pamela take it in turn each year to plan Valentine's Day celebrations. The tradition started in 2002 when Kevin ordered a limo to take the triad to Anna Maria Island for dinner at the Waterfront restaurant.
