Mr. Poker is the poker nickname for Jon Reddick.

Origin

Mr. Poker

The name Mr. Poker was given to Jon collectively by many of his card-playing friends shortly following his 2005 birthday tournaments, and most vocally by Rob Nucatola (who is keen on pronouncing it MISS-ter po-CARE).

It is based on Jon's appreciation for what Rob calls "the pageantry of poker." Jon has amassed a great quantity of poker equipment (personalized chips, custom table-top, casino cup holders, professional-grade cards, etc.), runs his poker tournaments with great attention to detail, tracks the results with computer software, and then posts the running statistics online for all of the participants to review.

Prior to Mr. Poker, Jon had briefly dubbed himself "Ugly Shirt," for the obnoxious dogs-playing-poker shirt he had worn to many games.

Card Protector

Mr. Poker's Muck

For many years, Mr. Poker has used a signature card protector, or "muck" during live games. It is seven brass machine nuts in an acrylic chip case.

The nuts are a reference to the term, nuts, which is poker slang for "the best possible." (i.e. nut flush means "the best possible flush" or the nuts means "the best possible hand")

Mr. Poker has been quoted as saying, "I may not always have the best hand, but at least this way I'll always have the nuts."
