Debbie and Kevin were actually able to train him to sit, sit-up, and wave, but only if there was food involved. In 1989, the McNulty's got another cat, [[Alex]], but B. J. faced the addition with resolve, never relinquishing his status as top cat to the new pretender to the throne. They became playmates, but Alex always respected B. J.'s status.
