It is an Exploring program of Learning for Life, a non-Scouting subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America. The program is generally available to all youth ages 14 through 21.

| − | Kevin's work and school commitments lead to him leaving the explorers in 1980. His interest in law enforcement would remain, though, and in 1984 he majored in Criminal Justice and got a job with the City of Irvine police department as a police officer. Before he could finish his academy training, however, Kevin had a change of heart career-wise. He dropped out of the academy and resumed his college education, changing his major to psychology. He still holds a great deal of respect for the law enforcement profession.
