Alex P. Caton was the second family cat of Clan McNulty. A gray tabby of the American Shorthair variety, Alex was the playful and mischeivous junior to senior cat B. J..
Life
Alex was procured as a roommate for B.J. in 1989. Kevin named him after the character in Family Ties, Alex P. Keaton. He never lost the playfulness of a kitten, frequently baiting B.J. or the family dog, Sheeba into wrestling matches or a game of chase. The "chase me" game would invariably lead to Alex running full speed into a wall or other obstacle as he would always be looking behind him for whomever was chasing him.
Death
Alex ate a ribbon off of a Christmas present under the tree in 1997 which tangled in his intestines a few days later. The ribbon was so entangled in his digestive system that vets were not even sure they could actually remove it all without irreperable harm to Alex. His kidney's failing and a prognosis for recovery slim, the family decided to euthanize Alex. Kevin stayed with him during the procedure.
Alex's death marked the beginning of a two-year period which included the death of every pet the clan had when they arrived in Tallahassee in 1991. It would be many years before the Clan obtained another furry family member.
