'''Slot Pilot''' was the ''[[USS Khai Tam|Khai Tam]]'' nickname for Wade Olson. Being the CO of the ''Khai Tam'''s first shuttle, ''Relentless'', Wade has long been a part of the ''Khai Tam'' family.

Any ''Khai Tam''er who has ridden as a passenger in Wade Olson's car can tell you what an adventure it could be. But during the road trip that earned him his nickname, Wade would outdo himself.

During the trip, several carfuls of ship members were caravaning back to Tallahassee from a day trip to the [http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/ Museum of Naval Aviation] in nearby Pensacola, FL. The club had recently purchased headset walkie-talkies for group activities and so that cars on such trips could communicate with one another. The problem with them turned out to be that their effective range was sometimes just shorter than the maximum safe driving distance between cars.

Being frustrated by his caravan-mates constant chiding for being out of range, he deftly manuvered his car striaght up the white-dotted line dividing the two eastbound lanes of Interstate 10, and put the nose of his car between the two cars in each lane ahead of him. This put him in the automotive equivalent of the US Navy Blue Angels' "Slot Pilot" in their diamond formation. Having just come from the museum which holds a dramatic display of Blue Angel planes in that same formation, members readily, and somewhat frighteningly, made the connection.
